Dirty Bertie
Our story and how this project came about
Dirty Bertie was what they called Edward VII when he was the Prince of Wales, wind in his sails — a man who scandalised Victoria’s British Empire with his appetite for hunting, fine dining, finer women and anything else that floated his boat. He fled to France whenever he could. And who could blame him?
By 1904, Bertie was Eddy Sète and we named ourselves after the year entente cordial was signed finally and officially, bringing that flair, tongue and cheek to the sun soaked midi.
Dirty Bertie is the work of Chad Keveny — an Irish painter who has been living in the south of France since 2009. His paintings are bold, sensual, sun-drenched. Bodies in light. Colour without apology. The kind of work that belongs outdoors, not behind glass.
